Fair Use Policy
This document is a placeholder. The final text is being prepared with legal counsel and will be published before launch.
Why we have this
Daguerre's paid plans list storage and other resource limits on the pricing page. Bandwidth (the volume of image data your clients download from galleries) is not metered on the plan card, but it is not unlimited either. This page describes the thresholds we use and what happens if an account goes beyond them. We publish this so there are no surprises — every gallery host applies similar limits; most bury them in fine print.
Monthly bandwidth
Bandwidth resets at the start of each calendar month and covers all gallery views, downloads, and ZIP exports across your studio — including both full-resolution and web-size downloads. The threshold is 100 GB per month on every paid plan. For reference, a wedding gallery delivered to thirty viewers at typical web-optimised sizes consumes roughly 5–15 GB of bandwidth, so the threshold comfortably covers a busy delivery month for most photographers. Offering clients the lighter web-size download (built from 2048px previews) is a good way to keep a large delivery within these limits.
Per-gallery transfer cap
A single gallery cannot exceed 20 GB of transfer in a month, regardless of plan. This protects you and us from one runaway gallery consuming the month's bandwidth. If a single shoot is genuinely larger, split it into multiple galleries (for example Day 1 / Day 2).
What happens if you exceed the limits
We warn you well before any action is taken. At roughly 80% of your monthly bandwidth you receive an email notice. At 100% we send a second notice with options to upgrade to a higher tier. Beyond that we may throttle non-essential traffic (large ZIP downloads first, individual image views last) or, for sustained excess use, require an upgrade to keep the service running. We do not silently cut off live client deliveries. The intent is to keep you informed and let you choose how to handle the spike.
Storage
Storage caps are listed on the pricing page and are enforced at upload time. Storage represents data you have actively uploaded to Daguerre; it is not a substitute for an offline archive. We recommend keeping your own master backups on a service such as Backblaze B2 or a local NAS.
Abuse and acceptable use
Fair use is not a workaround for the Acceptable Use section of the Terms. Accounts used for content delivery unrelated to a photography studio (general file hosting, hotlinking, content distribution networks, etc.) may be suspended regardless of where they sit against the thresholds above.
Changes to this policy
We may revise the thresholds with reasonable notice — typically by email at least thirty days before a change takes effect. The current version of this page is always authoritative.
